Background to Berkshire.
Classic Quality Made In The USA.
Berkshire Hosiery, founded in 1906, celebrates its
100th Anniversary in the year 2006. Based in North Carolina, Berkshire grew to be the
world's largest producer of full-fashioned hosiery during the days of silk stockings.
After World War II, and the introduction of Nylon, Berkshire was among the only brands
distributed nationally and was the one brand known as the epitome of fine quality hosiery.
In 1945, Cyrus Mayer founded the Mayer Hosiery Company. Selling fine quality hosiery,
Mr. Mayer's business paved way to a successful hosiery business in the United States.
In 1977, the Mayer family purchased Berkshire thereby merging the 2 hosiery companies as one
and continuing the manufacturing of fine quality hosiery as it is today.
Berkshire hosiery's popularity lies in its ability to design, to produce and to manufacture hosiery
for all types of women. Using the finest materials from all over the world, each of Berkshire's
employees are dedicated to making the highest quality products using processes primarily through
hand-work and not only through machinery. With special processes, each pair is delicately knit, sewn
and packaged by their employees. In addition, each of their styles are uniquely designed by quality
designers with in-depth knowledge knowing which of the highest quality materials are
appropriate and whilst knowing the shape of the human body. Berkshire designers are
well recognized to be the best in the industry for designing revolutionary hosiery styles and for
designing hosiery that actually "FIT". Their factory employees in North Carolina
then carry those designs out perfectly through their distinctively approved hosiery manufacturing
methods.
Berkshire Methods
For Queen size hosiery, rather than making hosiery that is of bigger size, Berkshire manufactures larger
size hosiery tailored according to the body proportions of a larger size woman. Their Queen size hosiery are especially
designed and accordingly manufactured in the waist, hips, thighs, calf, and foot area to "FIT" the body of a larger size
woman. Their Queen size pantyhose fit better than other pantyhose brands because Berkshire employees carefully hand
sew a specially Berkshire shaped panel in the panty area precisely to fit the buttocks for a larger size woman. This technique
is called "PANA-FIT". With this technique being refined continuously for 30 years, this "PANA-FIT" technique
has garnered a huge level of success amongst hosiery lovers.
For Control-Top hosiery, rather than using regular machine size Spandex, Berkshire uses a more expensive,
larger diameter Spandex in an effort to add more control, stability, durability, shape and also stretch to the pantyhose
itself, all for the woman’s exclusive comfort all day long. In short, Berkshire hosiery is different than many other brands
of pantyhose because of their revolutionary hosiery designs, and because of their quality manufacturing methods used.
